Klaviyo Integration

Automatically sync your real-time fan opt-in data from Bandsintown directly to your Klaviyo lists.

Overview

Because Bandsintown communicates directly with Klaviyo's API, no technical development is required from you. Simply connect your Klaviyo account credentials in your Bandsintown for Artists dashboard to start automatically sending fan contact details by following the steps below.

To learn more about fan data collected and how consent works, see Collecting Fan Data.

Important: Fan Contact Sync only sends new fan opt-ins collected after the integration is connected. These opt-ins can be collected through the Bandsintown Widget, Smart Link, and Signup Form.

Followers and RSVPs gained through the Bandsintown website or app do not sync.

⚠️ Note: opt-ins collected before connecting can be exported from Bandsintown through Fan Manager and imported into Klaviyo.

How to Connect Bandsintown for Artists to Klaviyo

1. Retrieve your API Key from Klaviyo

  1. Log in to your Klaviyo account.

  2. Click the Settings icon in the bottom-left navigation menu.

  3. Navigate to API Keys.

  4. Click Create Private API Key.

  5. Give the key a name (e.g., "Bandsintown") and click Next.

  6. On the permissions screen, select Full Access Key. If you use a Custom Key instead, make sure Profiles is set to Full Access. Bandsintown needs write access to Profiles to sync fan opt-ins to Klaviyo.

  7. Click Create.

  8. Copy the API Key to your clipboard.

⚠️ Note: This key is shown only once. Store it somewhere safe before closing the window. Anyone with access to your API Key can manage data within your Klaviyo account.

⚠️ Note: If your API Key is missing the required permissions, fan opt-in sync will fail and your integration may auto-pause. Klaviyo does not allow editing permissions on an existing key. If this happens, create a new key with the correct permissions, then remove and reconnect the integration in Settings > Fan Contact Sync using the new key.

2. Retrieve your List ID from Klaviyo

  1. In Klaviyo, click Audience in the left-hand navigation menu.

  2. Select Lists & Segments.

  3. Click on the list you want to sync fans into.

  4. Go to the Settings tab for that list.

  5. Copy the List ID value.

3. Configure the Connection in Bandsintown for Artists

  1. From the left-hand menu, navigate to Settings > General.

  2. Scroll down to the Fan Contact Sync section and click the Set Up button.

  3. In the configuration modal, select Klaviyo from the Platform dropdown menu.

  4. In the API Key field, paste the API Key you copied from Klaviyo.

  5. In the List ID field, paste the List ID you copied from Klaviyo.

  6. Click Start Syncing to activate the integration. Your status indicator on the settings page will turn green to confirm an active status.

4. Managing your Sync Settings

  • Pause the Sync: Open the Fan Contact Sync modal by clicking Edit at any time, then use the Pause Contact Sync toggle to temporarily stop processing actions.

  • Disconnect: Click the Remove Sync button in the configuration window to delete your credentials and disable the connection.

Important: Turn on “Collect Phone Number” in Bandsintown for Artists

The primary goal of the Fan Contact Sync integration is to send your fans’ opt-in information (name, email, location, etc.) from the Bandsintown.

When you use this integration with Klaviyo, phone numbers could become particularly important. To include phone numbers in the Fan Contact Sync payload, make sure the Collect Phone Number toggle is turned ON in your Bandsintown for Artists settings.

Once this toggle is enabled, please allow up to 12 hours for the change to propagate across the platform. After that, new opt-ins will start requesting and sending phone numbers from Bandsintown.

SMS consent and compliance

Fans who share their phone numbers through Bandsintown are verified through a double opt-in process and, as of October 2025, include SMS-specific consent language that meets TCPA requirements in all signup flows. This means the data sent to Klaviyo is already validated and compliant for text message marketing. For more details, see Collecting Fan Data.
