Collecting fan data

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Fans can choose to share their name, email address, location, and phone number with you through your Widget, Smart Link, or Signup Form.

Enabling phone number collection

To enable phone number collection, switch on the Collect Phone Number toggle within your Bandsintown for Artists dashboard settings. The phone number field will appear after a fan has entered their email address.

Verification (double opt-in)

All email addresses and phone numbers are verified through a double opt-in process. Fans must confirm a verification code sent to their email address or phone number before their information is shared with you.

Why this matters

Verification ensures that the contact information belongs to the fan and was intentionally shared. This helps protect you from fake or mistyped emails/phone numbers, improves the quality of your fan data, and reduces the risk of spam complaints or undeliverable messages when you reach out. In other words, you’re building a clean, reliable list of real fans who genuinely want to hear from you.

Important notes

  • Consent scope: when fans enter their email address and phone number through your Widget, Smart Link, or Signup Form, they consent to share this information with you via Bandsintown for the purpose of receiving updates, news, or other communications related to your music and events. Bandsintown also uses this information to register the fan on our platform if they aren't already registered.

  • SMS campaigns: if you intend to use phone numbers for SMS marketing campaigns, you (or your CRM provider) are responsible for ensuring that consent is collected under applicable laws in the country where the fan resides (e.g., TCPA in the U.S., CASL in Canada).

  • Best practice: phone numbers collected through our presale signup flow already include SMS-specific consent language and can be used directly for marketing campaigns. Phone numbers collected outside the presale flow do not include this language. These numbers may still be used, but you should first send a one-time confirmation SMS to obtain proper consent before starting any campaign.
