Mailchimp Integration

Automatically sync your real-time fan opt-in data from Bandsintown directly to your Mailchimp audience.

Overview

Because Bandsintown communicates directly with Mailchimp's API, no technical development is required from you. Simply connect your Mailchimp account credentials in your Bandsintown for Artists dashboard to start automatically sending fan contact details by following the steps below.

How to Connect Bandsintown for Artists to Mailchimp

1. Retrieve your API Credentials from Mailchimp

  1. Log in to your Mailchimp account.

  2. Click your Profile icon in the bottom-left corner of the navigation menu.

  3. Select Profile, then click Extras in the top navigation.

  4. From the dropdown, select API Keys.

  5. Under the Your API Keys section, click Create A Key.

  6. Enter a name for the key (e.g., "Bandsintown") and click Generate Key.

  7. Copy the API Key string to your clipboard. This key will only be shown once, so store it securely.

⚠️ Note: Treat these credentials securely like a password. Anyone with access to your Key can manage data within your account.

2. Retrieve your Audience ID from Mailchimp

  1. In Mailchimp, click Audience in the left-hand navigation menu.

  2. If you have more than one audience, use the dropdown to select the audience you want to sync fans to.

  3. Click Audience Settings.

  4. Scroll down to the Audience ID field and copy the value.

3. Configure the Connection in Bandsintown for Artists

  1. Log in to your Bandsintown for Artists account.
    ​

  2. From the left-hand menu, navigate to Settings > General.
    ​

  3. Scroll down to the Fan Contact Sync section and click the Set Up button.
    ​

  4. In the configuration modal, locate the Platform dropdown menu and select Mailchimp.
    ​

  5. In the API Key field, paste the API Key you copied from Mailchimp. The API URL will be generated automatically based on your key and does not require any input.
    ​

  6. In the Audience ID field, paste the Audience ID you copied from Mailchimp.
    ​

  7. Click Start Syncing to activate the integration. Your status indicator on the settings page will turn green to confirm an active status.

4. Managing your Sync Settings

  • Pause the Sync: Open the Fan Contact Sync modal by clicking Edit at any time, then use the Pause Contact Sync toggle to temporarily stop processing actions.

  • Disconnect: Click the Remove Sync button in the configuration window to delete your credentials and disable the connection.

Important Details

  • Opt-ins Only: This integration passes real-time fan opt-ins captured from your website Widget, Smart Links, and custom Signup Forms. Standard app followers or general website RSVPs are not handled by this contact sync line.

  • Phone Numbers: To ensure your fans' mobile numbers flow seamlessly into ActiveCampaign for SMS marketing, make sure the Collect Phone Number toggle is turned ON in your general Bandsintown settings. Once activated, allow up to 12 hours for the data capture configurations to push completely across the network.
